Task Six

Freytags Arc is a narrative structure that can be seen in many modern  movies. I believe it can be applied to the first Star Wars movie "A new Hope."

1.Exposision. Here the protagonist and antagonist are met. The setting and basic conflict are also outlined.

Luke Skywalker is at his Uncles farm on Tattoine miles from any conflict he is our protagonist. Across space the antagonist Darth Vader is searching for battle station plans aboard a rebel spacecraft, in a last-ditch attempt to smuggle the plans off the ship Princess Leah inserts the plans into R2D2 who crash lands in an escape pod on Tattooine. As fate would have it Luke ends up purchasing the droids from some Jawas and takes them home.

Tragically the imperial stormtroopers learn of the droids whereabouts and murder Luke's Aunt and Uncle in their search for them. This is the inciting moment that forces Luke to join Obi Wan Kenobi in leaving Tattooine and aiding the princess.

2.Rising action. Here obstacles are in place that protagonist must overcome.

Luke faces many obstacles at this point in the story. Firstly he must find a pilot who can fly him to the Alderon system, he finds a smuggler by the name of Han Solo in a dodgy cantina on Mos Eisley. He has to convince solo to help, avoid a bar fight and then help captain solo escape the clutches of a gangster by the name of Jabba the Hutt. Once onboard the millenium falcon, Luke struggles to grasp the ways of the force and once they arrive at Alderon they find it has been destroyed by Lord Vader's death star.

3.Turning Point. A tragic or comedic moment that changes everything.

After rescuing the princess from an imperial space station Luke and his friends are fleeing when Obi Wan Kenobi gets in a light sabre fight with Darth Vader. Obi Wan seemingly sacrifices himself to help them escape.

4.Falling Action. The conflict is resolved depending on the outcome of the turning point.

Luke is understandably distraught at the death of his mentor at the hands of his nemesis and vows to avenge him by taking down the empire. He enlists the help of the rebel alliance and launches an all out attack on the Death Star, the final battle is fought between the protagonists and the Antagonists.

5.Protagonists Succeeds/fails.

Luke fly's his X.Wing fighter down a narrow gully on the Death Star and pin points it's weak spot using the force just as Obi Wan had taught him. He blows up the Death Star and peace is restored to the galaxy. For now...

Task Five

Facebook app

The Facebook app is designed to mimic the layout of the iPhone menu with small icons representing all the elements of facebook. The app feels instantly familiar to anyone with an iPhone and almost like it's an official apple product due to it's quality and ease of use feels. They can be rearranged just like the main iPhone menu for ease of use.

Hipstermatic App

This app is designed to look and feel like a retro camera. You can change the lens and flash on the front of the camera by swiping at them.

Clicking the arrow on the bottom right will flip the camera round and you can use the viewfinder to take a picture.

The film icon will open the camera and you can swipe through a selection of films that will affect the look of the photo. Whilst an effect like this (in this case black and white) could easily be applied and selected from a menu, it makes the app feel more like a camera and makes using the app feel as authentic as the photos look.

iPhone Tetris
The tetris app does away with on screen buttons that show you where to touch. All actions are performed with gestures and swipes. By doing so there is more room for the bricks to occupy on screen.

I personally feel the screen is a little too busy and colourful, it's often distracting.
One useful feature of this game, it displays where the brick is about to fall, it really helps lining up drops.

Task Three

Complementary colours are found opposite each other on the colour wheel. Being opposites they compliment each other perfectly. I noticed that many sports teams use complimentary colours in their logos and team strips. The Photos I took are of logos I designed using the complimentary colours from two Basketball teams. I think they invoke a sense of grandness and tradition.

Analogous colours are found either side of each other around the colour wheel. I took these photos of mundane, everyday things carefully arranged in analogous uniform. I think analogous colours invoke a sense of uniform and tidiness despite being a photo of messy household things like a bed and some socks.

Task Two

Signifiers and Signified

Signifier: a sign's physical form (such as a sound, printed word, or image) as distinct from its meaning

Signified: the meaning or idea expressed by a sign, as distinct from the physical form in which it is expressed
